| SUBJECT: | DISCUSS FUNDING AN ICONIC ENTRANCE SIGN FOR THE VENETIAN CAUSEWAY |
|
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS:
| The Venetian Causeway bridges are in need of replacement due to their aging condition. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava revealed that the bridges are 50 years past their expected 50-year life span. The Venetian Causeway Bridge Replacement Project, a collaboration between Miami-Dade County's Department of Transportation and Public Works, and the Florida Department of Transportation, aims to replace 11 out of the 12 bridges. Efforts will be made to preserve the historic significance of the bridges while incorporating resilience features. The project is currently in the design phase but construction is expected to begin in 2025.
I ask that the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee consider funding an iconic welcome/entrance sign to Miami Beach on the Venetian Causeway prior to the completion of the new bridges. This sign will serve as a symbol of our city's identity and a warm greeting to all visitors and residents, fostering a sense of pride among our residents. By investing in this project, we can leave a lasting impression on those who pass through, showcasing the vibrant and diverse spirit of Miami Beach. |
