Please place on the September 13, 2023 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss options for upgrading City technology to improve the permit process via a centralized web portal.

At the direction of the City Commission, the City has engaged a consultant to review and identify ways to improve and streamline the City’s permitting process, particularly as it relates to multi-department permit reviews which tend to slow down the permitting process. 

I understand that Miami-Dade County is currently planning to expedite construction and development permitting via a new centralized web portal which will collect information about multi-department permit reviews and the approval status of permits, and provide access to staff to review permit comments and make appointments with permittees. 

As part of this referral and City’s on-going efforts to streamline the permit process, I request that the Administration review the new Miami-Dade County permitting system, and evaluate whether similar technology could serve to improve the City’s permitting process.
