Large-scale communal dining events have become popular in the last decade with events focusing on community engagement, celebrating the culinary arts and reinvigorating local tourism and economic development.
Savor the Summit:
An example of a communal dining activation is Savor the Summit (The event), a fifteen-year-old event in Park City Utah. The event was created in partnership with the Park City Jazz Festival and was created to help drive awareness to Park City restaurants during the off season. The event includes restaurants setting up tables up and down a main thoroughfare, creating a long communal table. To participate, guests make a reservation with a participating restaurant, no tickets required.
Greater Miami Visitors and Convention Bureau (GMCVB)
The Administration has had high-level conversations with representatives of the GMCVB executive staff regarding engaging their partnership in creating an event similar to Savor the Summit. The GMCVB is open to lending their expertise and relationships to entities, including local BIDs, to develop such an event. Staff also discussed the possibility of engaging Michelin or James Beard award winning Miami-Dade County restaurants.
