SUBJECT:DISCUSS WAIVING SPECIAL EVENT FEES, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $21,748 FOR THE ANNUAL MODEL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT HELD MARCH 18-19, 2023

HISTORY:

On February 22, 2023, the Mayor and Commission approved a referral to the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee sponsored by Commissioner Ricky Arriola to discuss waiving the special event fees, in the total amount not to exceed $21,748, for the annual Model Volleyball Tournament held the weekend of March 18-19, 2023, in Lummus Park on the 12th street beachfront. 

 

The event had an attendance of 15,000, both tourists and locals, and supports a local charity, the Jack Brewer Foundation, which empowers women and children living in impoverished and underdeveloped communities. 

 

The item was originally presented as a Resolution at the February Commission meeting. At that time, the item was referred to FERC. Since then, the event was held on the scheduled dates of March 18-19, 2023.

 

Producers of the event paid the following in Special Event Permitting fees in 2023, not including security deposit:

 

Application Fee: $267

Permit Fee: $570

Tax: $1,187

Square Footage Fee: $12,495

Square Footage Sand Tax: $4,462

Vehicle Access Pass: $1,207

Vehicle Access Pass Sand Tax: $402

 

Total: $20,590

ANALYSIS:

CONCLUSION:

If approved by the Commission, the Administration would reimburse the amount of $20,590, which represents the special event permit fees paid by the Model Volleyball event producer. This amount does not represent an expenditure by the City, it would be a reimbursement of fees collected.
