SUBJECT:DISCUSS THE EFFORTS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO COMBAT ILLEGAL DRUG DEALING IN THE CITY.

HISTORY:

Commissioner Meiner placed a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (PSNQLC) on the November 16, 2022 Commission Meeting agenda to discuss the efforts of the Police Department to combat illegal drug dealing.

ANALYSIS

The following report provides statistical data regarding narcotics arrests generated in the City of Miami Beach, Citywide and within the Art Deco Cultural District from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022.

2022 CITYWIDE NARCOTICS ARRESTS DATA:
• A total of 789 individuals were arrested on narcotics-related charges.
• 1, 451 charges were narcotic-related.
• 32% of all citywide arrests were narcotics related. The month of March was the highest month observed, with 117 arrests.
• A total of 4,604 individuals were arrested citywide on all charges.

2022 ADCD NARCOTICS ARRESTS DATA:
• A total of 328 individuals were arrested on narcotic-related charges.
• 585 charges were narcotics related.
• 25% of all ADCD arrests were narcotics related. The month of March was the highest month observed, with 50 arrests.
• A total of 1,325 individuals were arrested in the ADCD on all charges.

In 2022, the ADCD accounted for 42% (328 arrests) of the total citywide narcotics-related arrests.

There are active and ongoing investigations with local, state and federal agencies that cannot be discussed. Doing so would compromise the integrity of the investigative efforts.

CONCLUSION:
The Police Department remains committed to combatting narcotics-related offenses and utilizing all available resources, including using uniformed and undercover officers to reduce drug-related crimes effectively.
