| SUBJECT: | DISCUSSION REGARDING AN UPDATE ON THE EXPANSION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE, SPECIFICALLY LEVEL 3. |
|
| | | | | | | | HISTORY:
| On November 16, 2022, at the request of Commissioner Alex Fernandez, the City Commission referred item C4 P to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee.
The City currently has a contract with Blink Network, LLC, to provide electric vehicle charging stations at the City's parking facilities. This contract will expire on November 11, 2023 and a new solicitation is required. On February 22, 2023, the City Commission is slated to consider item C2 B on the City Commission agenda seeking approval to issue Request for Qualifications (RFQ) No. 2023-043-WG for electric vehicle charging stations at the City's parking facilities.
Additionally, the City is currently negotiating with Florida Power and Light (FPL) toward a contract for installation of Level 3 fast charging electric vehicle stations at designated City-owned parking lots. |
| | |
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| Electric vehicle sales continue to increase and as a consequence, so does the need for charging stations. Level 3 charging stations provide fast charging, however, these stations require a significant amount of power and the installation of transformers to support this need. |
| | |
| | | | | | | | CONCLUSION: The City continues its efforts to contract for Level 2 and 3 electric vehicle charging stations to augment the infrastructure necessary to support demand and promote sustainable mobility alternatives.
