COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM

TO: Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee Members

FROM:
Alina T. Hudak, City Manager

DATE: December 7, 2022

SUBJECT:DISCUSSION REGARDING PARKING NEEDS AT THE MIAMI BEACH BOTANICAL GARDENS.

HISTORY:

The Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial will be undergoing construction of the Holocaust Memorial Education Center, which will eliminate municipal parking lot P33.  This parking lot is utilized by visitors to the Holocaust Memorial and Miami Beach Botanical Gardens.

Whenever the parking lot is closed for public use, the Parking department will make the Convention Center Garage (g11) available to visitors of the Holocaust Memorial and Botanical Gardens.  Additionally, the City Hall Garage (G7) continues to be available to visitors.  Botanical Gardens staff would not be affected and will continue to park at the 17th ST Garage (G5).

During events at the Convention Center when parking becomes a $20 flat rate, parking will still be available at the City Hall Garage and the Convention Center.  A validation system can be established to address short term parking needs of visitors to the Holocaust Memorial and Botanical Gardens.  The validation would serve to provide an hourly rate instead of the $20 flat rate.

CONCLUSION:

The Administration is ready to implement parking solutions necessary to address parking needs for both the Holocaust Memorial and Botanical Gardens visitors when the municipal parking lot between these two (2) attractions is closed.
