Please place on the November 16, 2022 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee for the Police Department to provide the Committee with an update regarding its efforts in combatting illegal drug dealing in the City. As part of the update, I would request that the Police Department provide any data and information pertaining to its successes, including the number of arrests that have been effectuated for illegal drug sales (and where such arrests have been made), and prosecution efforts. Additionally, I further request that the Police Department provide the Committee with an update regarding any issues encountered in mitigating illegal drug sales in the City to include issues surrounding laboratory analysis of illegal drugs, including the difficulty in distinguishing illegal cannabis from legal hemp.

In providing this update, I want to emphasize and stress that I am not asking the Police Department to provide any data or information to this Committee which might in any way compromise any past, present or future investigation, nor reveal any confidential, protected, exempt or otherwise sensitive data or information, including any data or information which may reveal any police techniques (including undercover operations) procedures, personnel, strategies, targets or operations.
