| Housing costs in Miami Beach and South Florida have become unaffordable as our housing inventory has not kept up with increased demand and the rising cost of living. Moreover, many of our affordable housing units need rehabilitation and should be brought up to the modern standards sought out by the market.
I am asking the Land Use and Sustainability Committee to discuss increasing the allowable floor area ratio in certain areas of the City for the benefit of workforce housing. As City leaders, we must work to improve the condition of current workforce housing units and incentivize the creation of new workforce housing units to have supply better meet demand. This issue of the rising cost of housing has been discussed at many Commission meetings, but it is past due for us to come up with real solutions and not just talk about the problem. |
