COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM | | | |
| | | | | | | | TO: Land Use and Sustainability Committee
|
| FROM: Alina T. Hudak, City Manager
|
| DATE: October 28, 2022
|
| |
| | | | | | | | TITLE: | DISCUSS PRIVATE PARKING LOTS |
| |
| | | | | | | | HISTORY:
| On September 14, 2022, at the request of Commissioner Alex Fernandez, the City Commission referred the subject discussion item to the Land Use and Sustainability Committee (C4 AA). As noted in the attached referral memo, the item sponsor would like to discuss signage requirements for private parking lots, to better distinguish these lots from public parking lots. |
|
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS:
| The City has placed signage at some locations of municipal lots, including signage with arrows at locations where private and municipal lots are adjacent to each other to more clearly indicate which lot is a municipal lot. Part of the challenge currently is the proximity of some private and municipal lots, which makes it difficult to distinguish between them.
Although there are currently signage requirements in place on private lots, unfortunately people do not always pay attention and assume it is a municipal lot.
One option would be to develop a standard sign type for all municipal lots, which would provide a clearer message and identification of municipal lots. If there is consensus on this, the Parking Department could develop some different options for signage at municipal lots and bring them back for the LUSC for further discussion.

| | | | | | | | CONCLUSION:
| The Administration recommends that the Land Use and Sustainability Committee discuss the item and provide any applicable recommendations to the City Commission. |
