COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Commissioner Alex Fernandez
DATE:July  20, 2022

SUBJECT:DISCUSSION REGARDING PREVENTATIVE VACCINATION FOR HMPXV (MONKEY POX) IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY.

ANALYSIS

Please see the attached documentation. Cases of Monkey Pox have increased in South Florida but Miami-Dade County has not received any allotment of vaccinations to prevent the spread of the virus. According to the CDC: "While many of those affected in the current global outbreaks are gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men, anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has monkeypox can get the illness." Please see the attached materials. To protect our community, the State of Florida and the Federal governments should be encouraged to urgently increase the availability of the Monkey Pox vaccine and provide an allotment to healthcare providers in Miami-Dade County.
