SUBJECT:REPORT REGARDING EXPANDING THE FOOTPRINT OF THE MIAMI BEACH CITY HALL EARLY VOTING LOCATION DURING THE AUGUST 23, 2022 PRIMARY ELECTION AND THE MIAMI BEACH SPECIAL ELECTION.

RECOMMENDATION

The City Clerk hereby notifies the City Commission that he will be installing an Air-Conditioned Tent on the First Floor Breezeway of City Hall, in order to provide ample space for voter staging, ensure social distancing, accommodate the elderly and disabled voters, and provide cover from the elements for those in line during Early Voting for the August 23, 2022 Primary Election and the Miami Beach Special Election.

ANALYSIS

On May 4, 2022 and May 25, 2022, the Miami Beach City Commission adopted Resolutions scheduling an August 23, 2022 City Special Election, to be held at the time of the State Primary Election, for the purpose of presenting to City voters 6 ballot measures.

 

During Early Voting, which is to be held from August 8th through August 21, 2022, for the Primary and Special Election, voters may vote at any of the two City of Miami Beach Early Voting sites, located at:

Miami Beach previously expanded the Early Voting footprint at Miami Beach City Hall during the Presidential Primary Preference Election of March 15, 2016, the Primary Election of August 30, 2016, the General Election of November 8, 2016, the November 6, 2018 General and Miami Beach Special Elections, the Presidential Primary Preference of March 2, 2020, the August 18, 2020 Primary Election, the November 3, 2020 Presidential and Miami Beach Special Elections, and the November 2, 2021 Miami Beach General and Special Elections.

The cost that will be incurred to expand the Early Voting footprint for the August 23, 2022 Primary Election and Miami Beach Special Election:

Funds for election related expenses were approved by the City Commission during the FY 21/22 budget cycle.
