SUBJECT:DISCUSSION REGARDING POSSIBLE WAYS TO IMPROVE THE HOMELESS ISSUE.

HISTORY:

Commissioner Steven Meiner has placed a standing item to discuss homelessness and ways to address the issue in our community.

ANALYSIS

The City offers various voluntary services to provide support for those individuals choosing to end their homelessness. Homeless clients may access shelter services, reunification assistance, identification document replacement, entitlements assistance, and referrals to medical/ mental health/ substance abuse providers.

 

Unified Efforts Update: In the last 30 days, our Homeless Outreach Services Team, and Police-Homeless Resources officers (HRO) have been focused on our augmenting collaboration within City Departments to address encampments. The unified outreach team has added Environmental and Sustainability to the team to address encampments affecting the dunes.

 

Raising Awareness: The Homeless Outreach Services Team has been working with the City’s Marketing and Communication Department, to look at ways to raise awareness of the services offered by the city to serve the community.

CONCLUSION:

The City employs various strategies and services to support homeless persons' decision to end their homelessness and will continue to explore innovative and sustainable ways to support those who wish to end homelessness.
