COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM

TO: Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee Members

FROM:
Alina T. Hudak, City Manager

DATE: March 29, 2022

SUBJECT:

DISCUSS THE LACK OF PARKING AT FISHER PARK AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

HISTORY:

On January 20, 2022, City Commission referred a discussion regarding the lack of parking at Fisher Park and possible solutions to the Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee.

ANALYSIS

Fisher Park is a very popular park for residents with children. There is a large children’s playground as well as green space for activities such as yoga; however, there are limited parking spaces. Park visitors frequently park on landscaped areas and are ticketed. This practice has created damage to the park.

Currently, there are 10 parking spaces available at Fisher Park. Some of the existing parking is paved with pavers and other spaces are areas that have been milled, adjacent to the paver areas, to provide additional parking. The Parks and Recreation Department could increase the number of milled spaces along Delaware Avenue to provide additional opportunities for parking. Milling surfaces is a viable option as it is a permeable surface that allows for proper drainage. This solution would add up to 10 additional parking spaces for park visitors.

Fiscal Impact:

The cost to increase the number of parking spaces by up to 10 additional spaces would be $5,000.

CONCLUSION:
Committee direction regarding the lack of parking at Fisher Park and possible solutions
