| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS:
| Per a Florida State legislative mandate and because Miami Dade Schools Police (MDSPD) is the agency with full jurisdiction at all public schools, the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) moved away from providing full time police officers at all of the Miami Dade Public Schools in the City of Miami Beach at the beginning of the 2021/2022 school year.
Realizing the impact of the partnerships formed over the last few years following the assignment of full time police officers at the schools, Chief Clements committed to assigning three (3) School Liaison Officers (SLOs) to support the seven (7) full time police officers already assigned by the MDSPD to the schools. This assignment will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
The Department is budgeted for 433 sworn police officers. and is actively recruiting certified and non-certified police officers to fill 18current citywide vacancies. This recruitment effort remains a top priority for the agency in order to properly staff all areas of the city. At this time, therefore, the Department is unable to commit to adding extra personnel to the public schools which are assessed to be adequately overseen and staffed by MDSPD. |
