| SUBJECT: | DISCUSSION REGARDING THE MANNER AND MECHANISM IN WHICH THE CITY’S RESIDENTS CAN OBTAIN UPDATED INFORMATION REGARDING THE PENDING STATUS OF CRIMINAL OFFENSES PROSECUTED BY THE STATE ATTORNEY’S OFFICE. |
|
| | | | | | | | HISTORY:
| Commissioner Samuelian placed a referral to the Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee (NQLC) on the October 13, 2021 City Commission Meeting agenda to discuss the manner and potential mechanism through which residents can obtain the case status of cases pending prosecution by the State Attorney’s Office. The item was co-sponsored by Commissioner Meiner. |

| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| The City of Miami Beach and its Police Department acknowledge the importance of prosecuting crimes committed within city limits assertively and in a timely manner. Resident access to the status of these cases pending prosecution within the State Attorney’s Office only further supports community participation in the City’s efforts to combat recidivism and crime throughout the City.
Case status information is readily available on both county websites and within internal departmental databases. The Police and IT Departments propose the inclusion of a hyperlink on the City’s website under the City Clerk’s webpage that could be readily accessed either through the creation of a dedicated database, or a re-direction to the County’s Criminal Justice Online System.
The Police and IT Departments aim to utilize the March 02, 2022 NQLC meeting as a sounding board and opportunity to further discuss the specific information needing to be made available and the method by which the Commission wishes to accomplish this goal. |
