The Better Bus Program is ambitious in its aim to streamline transportation routes. However, there have been several complaints on the Program’s consideration to our senior population and their ability to reach bus stations under the proposed configuration. The Miami Beach Senior Affairs Committee and the Miami Beach Black Affairs Advisory Committee both passed motions at their July 26 and August 17 meetings (see attached) requesting the City and other key decision-makers to pause and reassess the configuration with substantial input from the senior population and other key stakeholders. The Housing Authority of the City of Miami Beach also raised concerns in a letter dated September 10, 2021 (see attached). It is imperative for Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami Beach to prioritize transportation for all Miami Beach residents and seniors, many of whom are limited in their ability to walk far distances.

This item requests the City to provide an opinion on the Program’s impact to our residents, particularly seniors, and any measures we should take.
