SUBJECT:	DISCUSS AND TAKE ACTION TO SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE POLICE VISIBILITY, AND ENSURE PROSECUTION AND JUDICIAL SENTENCING OF MIAMI BEACH ARRESTS, IN ORDER TO DETER AND PREVENT CRIME.

ANALYSIS

I asked Mayor Gelber to schedule a Special Commission meeting to discuss law and order and public safety. I don’t want this meeting to be just talk. We need specific action to deter and prevent crime in Miami Beach, particularly South Beach. This Commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 9, at 4 pm.

To implement effective crime-mitigating solutions, I personally emailed Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, inviting them to join our Miami Beach Commission Meeting on September 9 at 4pm. I also encouraged our City Manager Alina Hudak to make similar requests to Mayor Levine Cava and State Attorney Fernandez Rundle, and to extend the same invitation to our federal counterparts in the United States Department of Justice.
