| | Pursuant to the requirements of Article IV, Section 4.02 of the City Charter, it is recommended that the Mayor and the City Commission adopt the attached resolution consenting to Jose “Joe” L. Gomez, P.E., as the Director of the Public Works Department for the City of Miami Beach. |

| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND/HISTORY
| | Mr. Gomez has years of experience in both the public and private sector as a civil engineer with specific expertise in transportation, infrastructure, planning and design as well as construction management. As the Director of Operations for the Florida Department of Transportation District 6, he was responsible for leading a staff of more than 600 employees and a construction contract value of approximately $250,000,000. He has significant experience in the areas of public and community involvement and inter-agency coordination. His many years of experience in the private sector has also given him a significant portfolio of direct public project experience. Mr. Gomez will bring fresh and outstanding leadership to our team. The Public Works Director is arguably one of the most important positions in defining and implementing the future vision and important infrastructure priorities for the City of Miami Beach. Overseeing multiple areas, including Utilities Infrastructure, Sanitation, and Streets & Green Space, requires a candidate who is experienced, innovative and willing to think outside the box while working closely with City staff and residents to create pioneering solutions to the many issues facing our city. Mr. Gomez possesses all of those attributes. |

| Mr. Gomez’s valuable prior work experience will assist him as the new Public Work Director for the City of Miami Beach.
