BACKGROUND/HISTORY

On Thursday, June 17, 2021, the Miami Beach Police Department’s Community Affairs Unit provided a “Grab and Go” breakfast for our City’s Sanitation workers, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. This initiative was to commemorate and celebrate Global Garbage Workers Day, officially held on June 17 which honors sanitation workers from around the world. Global Garbage Workers Day was started in 2011 by John Arwood, an American businessman and CEO of the JDA company, which specializes in garbage disposal and demolition. This holiday encourages communities across the world to celebrate and show their gratitude to their local sanitation workers.

The City of Miami Beach hosted this breakfast in gratitude for the amazing work our Sanitation employees do to keep our city clean and pristine. The event, which hosted approximately 80 employees, served as a heartfelt “thank you” for all of the wonderful assistance they provide to the City’s Police Officers, Neighborhood Resource Officers and Homeless Resource Officers on a daily basis. The City received food and beverage donations from Dunkin’ Donuts, LLC., Bettant French Bakery, Einstein Bros. Bagels, and the Washington Avenue Business Association, with a value of $263.40 for the Global Garbage Workers Day breakfast event.
