COMMISSION MEMORANDUM |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | TO: | Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission | | FROM: | Commissioner Ricky Arriola | | DATE: | March 17, 2021 | | |
| SUBJECT: | REFERRAL TO THE FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS RE-ESTABLISHING THE TEMPORARY ART INSTALLATION PROGRAM. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| In 2019, the City Commission worked with the Cultural Arts Council to set aside $300,000 for a “Temporary Art Installation” program. The purpose of the program was to curate several artistic installations in key commercial areas of the city to drive foot traffic for several weeks and months. This program was inspired by the "Umbrella Sky" installation at Giralda Plaza in Coral Gables, which garnered a significant amount of attention for the area. I am asking the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee to consider re-establishing this program to aid our commercial areas and districts that the Coronavirus pandemic hit hardest. This program is in line with our goal to reimagine Miami Beach as a serious arts and culture destination. |
