SUBJECT:	REFERRAL TO THE FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS EXTENDING THE PREKINDERGARTEN EDUCATIONAL PILOT PROGRAM FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR.

ANALYSIS

The City's PreK Educational Pilot Program has received overwhelmingly positive interest by our community. Since opening the application period for the program, around 106 families applied for the 92 spots made available under the program.

The established program is designed to provide a stipend, in the amount of up to $2,700 for the school year for up to 92 families, to cover up to an additional 450 instructional hours of PreK, which is so critical to the future success of our children. This is a key program to attract families to live and stay on Miami Beach.

Because parents make plans to place their children in PreK well in advance of the school year, I am asking that we consider extending the PreK Pilot Program for another year.
