COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM

TO: Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee Members

FROM:
Raul J. Aguila, Interim City Manager

DATE: January 28, 2021

SUBJECT:DISCUSSION REGARDING 3RD PARTY DELIVERY FEES FOR RESTAURANTS DURING PANDEMIC UPDATE.

HISTORY:

Commissioner Gongora has explored methods to provide relief to Miami Beach restaurants and customers in consideration of the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to physical distancing guidelines and the continued spread of the virus, restauranteurs and their patrons rely heavily on third party delivery services. The reduction of in-person dining and the increased dependency on third party delivery services exacerbates existing financial constraints due to the associated commission fees.

Following a recent meeting with Uber Eats, the attached proposal was provided and is now submitted for consideration by the Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee. The proposal offers a few relief measures for Miami Beach restaurants and residents. Additionally, the proposal seeks public relations and marketing assistance from the City.
