| |
| | | | | | | | HISTORY:
| At its October 14, 2020 meeting, the City Commission approved on consent a directive to the City Administration to develop a public seawall action plan that includes an updated 2011 seawall investigation report, and details of current and on-going projects to repair and/or strengthen existing public seawalls within the City, vulnerabilities that demand immediate attention, projects required to address such vulnerabilities, and a multi-year funding plan with potential sources for it. The Commission further directed the City Administration to bring existing materials and outlined proposals to the Land Use and Sustainability Committee in 60 days from the adoption of this Resolution. |
|
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS:
| The City is currently designing public seawall improvements at the following ten (10) locations: Jefferson Avenue, Lenox Court, Garden Avenue, Bonita Avenue, Rue Notre Dame, Trouville Esplanade, Maurice Gibb Park, Brittany Bay Park, 7150 Indian Creek Dr., and 8100 Hawthorne Avenue with construction anticipated to begin in 2021 and 2022 (see Exhibit A).
The Public Works Department is also working to develop a fully prioritized list of public seawall improvement projects. This list will leverage the data collected by the City’s LiDar Drone, which will digitize the elevations of both private and public seawalls. The effort is expected to be completed by June, 2021.
The digitized elevation data will provide an easy visualization of areas vulnerable to storm surge and will facilitate citywide seawall prioritization and planning.
Results from the 2019 Resident Survey regarding Satisfaction with Perceptions of the City show that 46% of residents rated City efforts to reduce risk from rainfall & sea level rise as very satisfied/satisfied. In order to continue maintaining excellent standards in this area, the City is currently designing public seawall improvements at various locations. |
