This item aims to implement positive family-friendly activation of the Lummus Park / Ocean Drive / Beach area 365 days a year for both kids and adults to enjoy, which could include a Ferris wheel, a carousel, cultural exhibits, concerts, sporting tournaments and food. Family-friendly programming will activate this area year-round and increase public safety. This initiative was discussed at the Commission's Land Use and Sustainability Committee Workshop on September 17.

A pilot program for all new activation is appropriate as the City evaluates the behavioral and economic impact the activation would bring to the immediate area. The London Eye is an example of a pilot program that started in 1999 and became one of London’s permanent major attractions with 30 million annual visitors. Installation of high-end activations will help the area’s image, and assist in bringing our residents and tourists to the area while being economically beneficial to our businesses and City.
