This item requests the City to provide the Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee an update on the 41st Street lighting project. The installation of year-round "holiday" LED lighting on all 251 palm trees along 41st Street was completed several months ago. The City is working with the contractor to resolve several unforeseen issues to ensure that all trees remain lit. On most evenings, many and sometimes the majority of the tree lighting has been unlit. Since implementation, residents and business owners have expressed strong support for the initiative as it is an essential public safety and economic development enhancement to the neighborhood.
This discussion should include the timing of installation of LED lighting of 41st Street streetlamps as recently approved by the G.O. Bond Oversight Committee.
There are still other areas of our City that need improved lighting. Miami Beach’s Smart City Street Lighting System is coming soon and will provide much improved lighting to many neighborhoods.
