SUBJECT:	REFERRAL TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS A NEW LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY TO CHANGE STATE OF FLORIDA STATUTES TO ALLOW FOR MIAMI BEACH MUNICIPAL JUDGES TO ENFORCE CITY ORDINANCES.

ANALYSIS

In January 2018, the City adopted the Miami Beach Prosecutor Program, yielding substantial results for Miami Beach to enforce City Ordinances in Miami-Dade County courts. However, Miami-Dade County prosecutors and judges, who have responsibility for the thirty-four (34) cities comprising Miami-Dade County, often don’t properly prioritize Miami Beach quality of life ordinances. Therefore, it is appropriate at this time for a new legislative priority to change State of Florida Statutes to allow for Miami Beach municipal judges to enforce City Ordinances.
