In 2018, after extensive community engagement, Alta-Gehl completed a 41st Street Vision Plan incorporating public input garnered through meetings, surveys and feedback sessions. The Vision Plan served as a starting point for the subsequent analysis and design process implemented by AECOM leading to the development of two (2) schematic design options for the 41st Street corridor. The purpose of the schematic designs is to enhance quality of life, activate the community, and promote economic development and revitalization through physical improvements.
At the September 23, 2020 Mayor's Blue Ribbon 41st Street Committee meeting, AECOM shared a preliminary presentation of the two (2) schematic design plans for the 41st Street corridor. This preliminary presentation provided an initial forum for public input and feedback on the proposed plans. The schematic design plans were also shared at the September 24, 2020 G.O. Bond Oversight Committee meeting, providing another opportunity for public input and feedback. Committee members from the respective committees asked questions and gave their comments on the proposed plans.
Based on the feedback provided during each committee meeting, AECOM made modifications to the plans and presented the two (2) proposed schematic designs to the community during a public virtual Town Hall meeting held on October 1, 2020. One hundred and Twenty-five (125) individuals participated in the Town Hall meeting which included a significant question and answer session. In addition to public participation during the meeting, staff sought further input from the community through an online survey made available from October 1-8, 2020.
After analysis of survey results and further input from the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon 41st Street Committee, the G.O. Bond Oversight Committee, and other neighborhood association groups, a selected schematic design plan would be ready to be discussed at the Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee (NQLC).
