| SUBJECT: | REFERRAL TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE - DISCUSSION REGARDING THE SOUTH POINTE PARK CAFE RENEWAL CONTRACT. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| Please place on the July 29 Commission Meeting a referral to the Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee to discuss the South Pointe Park Cafe rental renewal contact. The South Pointe Park Cafe has been operating the Concession at South Pointe Park for the past four years. The concessionaire has done a great job in this space. They have heavily invested in furniture, fixtures and equipment (FFE) to enhance the space and are now able to offer locally made healthy popsicles, locally made artisan gelato, espressos, cappuccinos, bake fresh croissants, empanadas, and pizzas. As the service and food assortment improved, sales more than doubled, and income for the City (percentage rent) more than doubled accordingly. The Cafe also only employs Miami Beach High former and current students and collaborates with South Pointe Elementary for community events. Also, due to COVID pandemic, this might deter a new operator from wanting to bid in the space. I suggest we go ahead and renew the contract for South Beach Cafe. Please feel to contact Diana Fontani if you need any additional information. |
