Volleyball is a very popular activity with a number of residents, and indeed attracts visitors to Miami Beach.
Volleyball players have expressed concerns on the use of and impact on the courts, especially 7th - 9th streets, by FOX during the Super Bowl.
The City Manager has advised, “We have facilitated meetings between your group (volleyball players) and Fox Sports and Super Bowl officials to get your input and their commitments on how they will remediate any impact on the courts. My staff and your members, I am certain, will make sure we hold the NFL and Fox to their commitments.”
While very disappointing to a number of players, it appears the court space will be used for over a month.
This discussion should focus on the specific commitments made by NFL/ Fox, and the City plan to ensure return of the courts to, at minimum, their pre-event status.
Moreover, we should take this opportunity to discuss the City's policy on the prohibition of use of these courts (7th - 9th) for future events or extraordinary conditions that may warrant their utilization.
