| On December 5, 2019, the City of Miami Beach hosted Art Basel Miami Beach, the most comprehensive international contemporary art fair in North America, with over 268 galleries from 35 countries, showcasing works by more than 4,000 artists. Art Basel Miami Beach, which is held annually, brings thousands of residents and tourists together to enjoy internationally recognized contemporary public art and art-related events and to engage the community in projects that promote art and culture. La Prairie’s Waveinstallation, by artist Pablo Valbuena, incorporates a decommissioned Miami Beach lifeguard tower, fully restored for a 2019 Art Basel Miami Beach debut by Makaira, Inc. At the conclusion of Art Basel Miami Beach, Makaira, Inc. will donate the refurbished lifeguard tower to the City of Miami Beach.
