| SUBJECT: | DISCUSSION OF SALSA LA PLAYA TO BE HELD IN THE NORTH BEACH BANDSHELL |
|
| | | | | | | | HISTORY:
| The event “Salsa a La Playa” is committed to provide the Miami Beach community with a family friendly and free event to enjoy and teach rich Latin music culture through music. Over twenty five presenters have showcased pieces of their musical collection and shared facts and details about their records and record collections. The initiative is based on the need of more family friendly events that provide an alternative, to next generation, to learn about Latin musical history and traditions.
The core team includes Julio Andrade, Juan Carlos Parra, Lucas Torres and a group of volunteers involved in the planning, logistics and development of the event.

| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS:
| The Salsa La Playa organizers were referred to the Tourism and Culture Department seeking a venue to host the event, which had been previously held on the beach. The success of the event dictated that it needs a proper forum to provide for a quality event that was safe for families and the North Beach community.
When discussed with the event organizers, they made certain that they did not require any financial support, but were just looking for a venue to hold their event. Tourism and Culture referred the event organizers to the Rhythm Foundation, the managers of the North Beach Bandshell.
Thereafter, the Rhythm Foundation and the event organizers discussed available dates and fees associated with hosting a quality and fun event for the North Beach community and beyond.

| | | | | | | | CONCLUSION:
| The Administration agrees that the Salsa La Playa event is a positive community initiative that enhances the diverse cultural offerings in the North Beach community, but does not recommend any funds dedicated to rental of a venue, as this event has been successfully taking place in the community without prior financial support. |
