|SUBJECT:||REFERRAL TO THE FINANCE AND CITYWIDE PROJECTS COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS VACATING A PORTION OF OCEAN COURT BETWEEN THE CLEVELANDER AND ESSEX HOTELS IN FAVOR OF THE JESTA GROUP PURSUANT TO SECTION 82-37 OF THE CITY CODE TO ENABLE A PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE TO LINK BOTH PROPERTIES.|
The Jesta Group purchased the Clevelander and Essex Hotels on October 2018. The firm is seeking to reinvest in the historic properties and connect both properties via a pedestrian bridge that will span over Ocean Court. Pursuant to Section 82-37(a) of the City Code, the Jesta Group is seeking vacation of a portion of the Ocean Court alleyway, adjacent to their properties, for the construction of the bridge. I ask for the Finance Committee to discuss this proposal at its July meeting. I envision this process following the same general framework as other bridge connector projects like the Tides, Betsy, and Trader Joe's.
