ANALYSIS:
The Police Department will deliver a PowerPoint presentation on its operational plans for 2019 Memorial Day Weekend (MDW) at Neighborhood Community Affairs Committee’s April meeting. The presentation will cover the major elements of the plan, which is built upon the successful plans of prior years but will also include some modest improvements based on lessons learned from the most recent Spring Break period. The presentation will include:
- The staffing and deployment plan over the four-day period
- A summary of the extra resources being supplied by colleague law enforcement agencies in the region
- Plans for License Plate Reader (LPR) deployment on the causeways to screen traffic entering Miami Beach
- An explanation of the Traffic Loop configuration for 5th Street, Collins Ave and Washington Ave
- Special Plans for traffic control within the areas the South of Fifth and Flamingo Park neighborhoods
- A new barricade deployment scheme for Ocean Drive developed during the most recent Spring Break
- Deployment of a new special response team (Field Force) based on tactics and lessons learned from the most recent Spring Break
- Discussion of the special considerations and plans associated with the Air and Sea Show scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26, including the concert on the beach, 5 – 10 p.m. on Sunday
