COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM

TO: Neighborhood/Community Affairs Committee Members

FROM:
Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager

DATE: April 24, 2019

SUBJECT:

DISCUSSION BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE ATTACHED LIST OF CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS PURSUANT TO THE CITY'S COMPREHENSIVE TICKET POLICY SET FORTH IN RESOLUTION NO. 2014-28638.

KEY INTENDED OUTCOME:
Strengthen Internal Controls To Achieve More Accountability

HISTORY:

On June 11, 2014 the City Commission adopted the Complimentary Ticket Policy ("Policy") pursuant to Resolution No. 2014-28638 (see attached).  As detailed in the Policy, the City Manager's Office prepares a list of deserving organizations and groups eligible to receive complimentary tickets given to the City of Miami Beach by cultural and entertainment partners.

Each year, the administration updates the list for Mayor and Commission approval.

ANALYSIS:

Also pursuant to this Policy, the list of eligible organizations is to be reviewed and recommended, on an annual basis, by the Neighborhood and Community Affairs Committee (NCAC), and approved by the City Commission. For the 2019 year, the Tourism and Culture Department, revisited the list to remove all organizations no longer in operation, or who no longer meet the requirements of being a charitable organization and/or deserving organization.

Please see two attachments which outline the administrations recommendation to remove 3 "for profit" organizations from the comp ticket list,  and a clean version of the administrations recommended organizations for 2019.

CONCLUSION:
The Administration recommends the attached list (CLEAN VERSION) of charitable and deserving organizations to receive complimentary tickets pursuant to the City's Complimentary Ticket Policy.
