Please refer to the Transportation, Parking and Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee and to the Public Safety Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee a discussion regarding access to Mount Sinai Medical Center for residents of North Beach who use public transportation as their main mode of transportation.
Residents living north of 63rd Street were able to access Mount Sinai using the Mid-North Beach connection offered by Route 115 which provided southbound service from as far north as 88th Street along Collins Avenue, Abbot Avenue/Harding Avenue, and Alton Road towards Mount Sinai. Route 115 also provided service from Lincoln Road and Washington to Mount Sinai.
With the implementation of the Better Bus Network, Route 115 has been discontinued as of November 13, 2023, and replaced with Routes 15, 20, and 100.
- Route 15 provides weekday and weekend service from the Omni Terminal to Lincoln Road via Venetian Causeway and 17th Street, and the Collins Park Neighborhood via Park Avenue.
- Route 20 provides weekday and weekend service from the Airport Station to Lincoln Road via Alton Road, through 17th Street to Washington Avenue and Collins Avenue. Route serves Jackson Hospital, Omni Terminal, South Beach.
- Route 100 provides weekday and weekend service from Downtown Miami to Aventura Mall Terminal via 5th Street through Washington Avenue to 17th Street and serving North Beach along Collins Avenue, Indian Creek, and Harding Avenue.
Through the Better Bus Network, South Beach and some Mid Beach residents can continue to access Mount Sinai utilizing Route 14 which travels south along Alon Road from the MacArthur Causeway and north along Washington Avenue, Collins Avenue, and Indian Creek towards 41 Street and entering Mount Sinai.
To mitigate the impacts of the discontinuation of Route 115, I sponsored legislation expanding the Freebee on-demand transit service. This expansion provides services to a portion of North Beach previously served by Route 115. Notwithstanding this effort, my office continues to receive complaints from North Beach residents regarding access to Mount Sinai.
It should be noted that North Beach continues to be serviced by the North Beach Loop and the Collins Express routes of the Miami Beach Trolley. The Committee should consider the feasibility of extending one of the trolley routes to restore service to Mount Sinai hospital for North Beach residents. Said extension could potentially also serve residents wishing to access Route 150, the Miami Beach Airport Express.
With professional guidance from the Transportation and Mobility Department, the committees are requested to provide input regarding this matter and advisory recommendations for potential solutions to address this challenge.
