Please place on the May 4, 2022 City Commission agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee for an update and discussion surrounding the Division of Environmental Resources Management (“DERM”) permitting/approval process (in particular, with regard to grease traps) and its impact in delaying or impeding the City’s ability to timely approve and issue Business Tax Receipts to establishments desiring to conduct business in the City.
As part of the referral, I would request that the City Administration be prepared to address at the Committee meeting various aspects and issues regarding DERM permitting and approval including, but not limited to: the impact of DERM permitting/approval on businesses; how many establishments in the City have been adversely affected due to lack of DERM permitting/approval or delayed DERM permitting/approval; the history of DERM approvals for City businesses and DERM’s position; and what the City can do to remediate any such issues. I would also specifically request that the City Administration invite Miami-Dade County DERM representative(s) to attend the PSNQLC meeting.
