COMMISSION MEMORANDUM |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | TO: | Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission | | FROM: | Commissioner Mark Samuelian | | DATE: | May 4, 2022 | | |
| SUBJECT: | DISCUSS AND TAKE ACTION ON THE STATUS OF THE DEAUVILLE HOTEL. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION
| The Deauville is a contributing building within the North Beach Local Historic District. It has been closed since July 25, 2017 when there was a fire in the Deauville’s electrical room. Since 2017 the property owners of the Deauville have been unresponsive to several City and County sanctions and requests. On December 15, 2021, a Structural Condition Assessment Report was provided to the City.
The Commission should discuss:
- the process in which the City Administration granted the demolition permit to the Deauville while there was still pending litigation, and without notice to the Commission or our City residents
- the status of efforts being taken to ensure the preservation of the architecturally significant portions of the building, including the independent engineering firm requested by the Commission
- actions to ensure public safety at the building site
- communications with our residents on what to expect and when |
