A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO ACCEPT A SPONSORSHIP CONTRIBUTION FROM JACKSON HEALTH SYSTEMS, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $30,000, TO SUPPORT THE CITY’S PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT’S YOUTH TRAVEL SOCCER LEAGUE; AND, FURTHER, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HER DESIGNEE, TO MAKE SUCH EXPENDITURES AND/OR REIMBURSEMENTS CONSISTENT WITH THE AFORESTATED PURPOSE.

Since early 2000, the City of Miami Beach, through its Parks & Recreation Department, has offered travel soccer opportunities for boys and girls ages 8-18. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Travel Soccer League’s (“the Program”) main focus is to improve each and every child's soccer skills and prepare them to play in a competitive environment as well as individual player development while bringing the youth together and building a solid team atmosphere. The Program also teaches the youth important life lessons to further their growth not only as soccer players, but also as excellent individuals. The Program believes that all youth should be afforded equal opportunities to explore their potential as soccer players and is committed to making the experience safe and rewarding for everyone involved, coaches and parents included. Currently, as many as 256 youth participants tried out for the upcoming 2021-2022 season to land a coveted spot on the Program’s 12-14 teams.

Jackson Health Systems, governed by the Public Health Trust of Miami-Dade County, made a sponsorship contribution in the total amount of $30,000 to support the Program. A sponsorship contribution from Jackson Health Systems would assist the Program with player uniforms, TRACE Cameras (Camera system that is used to record soccer games and assist players with building highlight reels to be used towards college/university recruitment), soccer goals for  the team’s practice/game locations, and coaching equipment for practices. The City provides 7,300 School Agenda Books to Miami Beach students for homework and school assignments.

In recognition of Jackson Heath System’s sponsorship, the City will include an advertisement of Jackson Health System’s services inside the 2021-2022 School Agenda Books, and, subject to the City Commission’s approval of any applicable waivers of the City’s Land Development Regulations relating to the sponsorship signage, the City will feature two promotional field banners for one calendar year at the Flamingo Soccer Field, and Flamingo Park Memorial Stadium.

The City Administration recommends that the City Commission approve and authorize the City’s acceptance of the donation, in the total amount of $30,000, from Jackson Health Systems to support the City’s Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Travel Soccer League and the Miami Beach School Agenda Books.
