COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Vice-Mayor Steven Meiner
DATE:February  10, 2021

SUBJECT:

A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO REQUEST FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT ("FPL") TO SUPPLY ELECTRICAL RELIABILITY DATA FOR THE PUMP STATION LOCATED AT 32ND STREET AND THE INDIAN CREEK DRIVE STREET END (THE "PUMP STATION"), AS PART OF THE INDIAN CREEK DRIVE FLOODING MITIGATION PROJECT PHASE Ill, IN ORDER FOR THE ADMINISTRATION TO DETERMINE IF A GENERATOR IS REQUIRED FOR THE PUMP STATION.

ANALYSIS

In October 2020 the Commission unanimously approved an initiative to eliminate the requirement that all new stormwater pump stations include a dedicated power generator. Previous to the passing of this legislation, all stormwater pumps required a generator. Now the determination whether a generator is needed will be made neighborhood-by-neighborhood based on redundant power source data provided by FPL and resident input. Eliminating unnecessary generators save our residents from a significant eyesore. It could also potentially save our City millions of dollars.

This resolution seeks redundant power source data from FPL for the Indian Creek stormwater pump station to help determine whether a generator is required for this project.
